April is a busy month for the Resource & Crisis Center – it is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Prevention Month. RCC has organized four events throughout the month bring awareness to and education about the issues of sexual assault and child abuse. By joining us at these events, you will be educating the community about the terrible realities of interpersonal violence and demonstrating support for the men, women, and children who have experienced sexual assault or child abuse.
Take Back the Night Walk
Monday, April 1st at 45th Street and Seawall from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Over 50% of all sexual assaults that occur in the United States are not reported. Take Back the Night is a movement to bring awareness and change to end sexual violence of all kinds. The Resource & Crisis Center invites all to join us as we light-up the night with glow sticks during a 5K walk along the seawall in support of survivors throughout our community.
Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Prevention Month Proclamation
Tuesday, April 2nd in front of the Galveston County Sheriff’s Depatment located at 5700 Aveneu H, Galveston, TX at 11:00 AM
The national theme for 2013 Sexual Assault Awareness Month is “It’s Time to Talk About It.” In honor of this theme, please join the Resource & Crisis Center for a county wide proclamation declaring April Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Prevention Month announced by the Galveston County District Attorney, Jack Roady.
Child Abuse Awareness “Chalk Walk”
Monday, April 8th at original Galveston County Courthouse at 722 Moody Avenue at 5:30 PM
RCC and the Court Appointed Special Advocates program invite the community to chalk the sidewalks outside of the Galveston County Courthouse with pictures and logos in support of child abuse prevention awareness. All children at the event will get to place a pinwheel in the ground in honor of a child in foster care.
Sexual Assault Awareness Poetry Slam
Saturday, April 27th at MOD Coffeehouse from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM
RCC invites everyone in the community to join us for an open-mic style poetry slam honoring victims of sexual assault.
