Voices for Children: CASA Volunteer Job Description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
- To recommend to the court, based on fact fining and research, the best interest of the child or children.
- To support and to work toward the mission and goals of CASA: that every child has the right to a safe and permanent home.
- To provide the support and assistance required to assure a safe, permanent homefor children.
REPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:
- Interview all parties involved with the assigned case.
- Maintain documented records of findings.
- Keep an updated contact log of all contacts as well as any time spent on the case.
- Confer with Case Manager a minimum of once every two weeks and prior to any final decision.
- Attend all staffings concerning the child or children to whom you may be assigned.
- Discuss court reports and recommendation with the Case Manager prior to preparing the court report.
- Prepare all court reports and submit to the Case Manager 21-days [15 business days] prior to the scheduled court hearing.
- Monitor case to ensure court orders are being carried out and services to the child/children are being provided and placement is appropriate.
- Appear in court to represent the child/children “Best Interest”.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
REQUIREMENT OF THE POSITION:

Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.

Complete a written volunteer application.

Complete a screening process including, but not limited to, criminal, sex offender and CPS
-
Complete the initial 30-hour “CASA Volunteer” training.

Sign a “Statement of Commitment”.

Sign a “Pledge of Confidentiality”.
-
Appear before the court and be sworn in as a representative through the CASA program.

Complete a “Post Training Interview” after completing the initial training course.

Maintain 12-hours per year of continue education that assist in providing direct service to children and/or the program services.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE POSITION:

Willingness to work within the guidelines, policies and standards of the court and Voices for Children [CASA].

Good human relations skills and the willingness to be open and objective.

Commitment to represent the “Best Interest” of the children you are assigned to.

Time, interest and the energy to do the job.

Ability and willingness to receive guidance and direction from the program and staff.

Ability to work part of a team.

Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
-
Sensitivity toward cultural and ethnic difference.

Ability and commitment to maintain clear documented records throughout the assignment.

Ability to formulate and maintain an independent position throughout the assignment.

Understanding the importance of confidentiality and the personal commitment to maintain confidentiality at all times.

Volunteer Training
As a CASA advocate, you receive ample training to complete the position sufficiently and become an outstanding advocate! The CASA program requires 30 hours of in depth, pre-service training which is offered quarterly. In addition, the CASA program offers in-training once every month.
Mark your calendars! Our next CASA volunteer training is scheduled for April 29, 2013 through May 13, 2013, Monday through Friday from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
